Tigers qualify several for state

Several Morgan City High School Tigers punched their ticket to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A state track and field meet with solid performances at the Class 4A Regional meet at East Jefferson High School in Metairie Wednesday.
The Tigers’ 4x100-meter relay and 4x200-meter relays advanced, knocking off track powerhouse Karr in the 4x200-meter relay and finishing second to the New Orleans-area school in the 4x100-meter relay.
The Tigers’ 4x200-meter relay of Jaylen Jones, Tierrell Jones, Keyvon Marsh and Buddy Humphrey clocked in at 1:28.48 to win the event, while Karr was second at 1:29.22.
The Tigers’ 4x100-meter relay, made up of the same competitors as the 4x200 relay, clocked in at 42.49 seconds as Karr edged them with a 42.34-second finish.
Individually, Jaylen Jones advanced in the 200-meter run and the triple jump, while Malcolm Watkins also advanced in the triple jump and Darryl Johnson, in the shot put.
Jones finished second in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.03, while he leaped 44 feet, 1.5 inches for a third-place finish in the triple jump.
Watkins finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 9.5 inches, while Johnson tossed the shot put 47 feet, 8 inches for a second-place finish.
The Tigers finished fifth at the meet with 49 points.
The top three competitors in each event at regionals advanced to the state track meet, which will be held Saturday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
