Trio of area high schools conclude seasons at state swim meet

Tri-City area high school swimmers will conclude their seasons this week at the AllState Sugar Bowl Louisiana High School Athletic Association Championship Swim Meet at SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur.
Representatives from Central Catholic, Berwick and Morgan City will hit the pool.
Area action began Wednesday morning with preliminaries in Division IV where Central Catholic competes.
The Eagles have three swimmers competing in four events.
Sophomore David Nugent will compete in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle, while sophomore Wade Crappell is competing in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Gunnar Theriot also will compete in the 50-yard freestyle.
Nugent is seeded 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.37 and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.24.
Crappell is No. 25 in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:25.98 and is No. 37 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.20.
Theriot is seeded No. 53 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.97.
The finals for Division IV events are set for Thursday.
In Division III, Berwick will have five individual swimmers competing in five events on the girls side, while the boys will have six swimmers competing in five events. The boys and the girls also are sending three relay teams.
On the girls side, senior Mary Jordan Melancon and sophomore Alyssa Gray each will compete in two individual events. Melancon will compete in the 50-yard freestyle where she is seeded No. 13 with a time of 27.35, while she also will line up in the 100-yard breaststroke where she is seeded No. 21 with a time of 1:22.26. Gray will compete in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Gray is seeded No. 18 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.10 and No. 23 in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:04.08.
Other individual competitors include sophomore Megan Soileau in the 200-yard individual medley, sophomore Maya McGinnis in the 100-yard backstroke and Abbie Koen in the 100-yard breaststroke. Soileaux is seeded No. 32 in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:50.19, while McGinnis is seeded No. 24 in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:15.20. Koen is seeded No. 25 in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:24.60.
In relay action, Berwick is sending its 200-yard medley relay, its 200-yard freestyle relay and its 400-yard freestyle relay.
The 200-yard medley relay is seeded ninth with a time of 2:14.42. Team members include McGinnis, Melancon, senior Mary Morella and sophomore Maci Broussard.
The 200-yard freestyle relay is seeded No. 7 with a time of 1:52.35. Team members included Gray, McGinnis, junior Mary Catherine Reggie and Melancon.
The 400-yard freestyle relay is seeded No. 8 with a time of 4:22.61. Team members include McGinnis, Soileau, senior Peytan Theriot and Gray.
On the boys’ side, senior Mikey Martin and junior Stephen Theriot will compete in two individual events. Martin will line up in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard buttlerfly, while Theriot will line up in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Martin is seeded No. 18 in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:26.89, and he is seeded No. 16 in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.77. Theriot is seeded No. 25 in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:34.62, and he is seeded No. 20 in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:16.73.
Other individual competitors include Luke Orlando in the 200-yard individual medley, junior Grayson Wells in the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Ty Kapp in the 100-yard butterfly and freshman Landon Broussard in the 100-yard backstroke.
Orlando is seeded No. 26 in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:39.15, while Wells is seeded No. 13 in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.62. Kapp is seeded No. 17 in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.74 and Broussard is seeded No. 17 in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.83.
Berwick also will be competing in the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Berwick’s 200-yard medley relay is seeded No. 9 with a time of 2:03.52. Team members include Broussard, Theriot, Wells and junior Kyle Boudreaux.
Berwick’s 200-yard freestyle relay is seeded No. 7 with a time of 1:43.58. Team members include Boudreaux, Kapp, sophomore Joseph Borkowski and Wells.
The Panthers’ 400-yard freestyle relay is seeded No. 8 with a time of 3:56.01 Team members included Wells, Boudreaux, Borkowski and Martin.
Preliminaries are Wednesday afternoon, while the finals will be held Thursday.
In Division II, Morgan City’s boys are led by junior J.P. Dupuy, who will compete in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Dupuy is seeded sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.89 and No. 10 in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.60.
Morgan City also will compete in the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Morgan City’s 200-yard medley relay is seeded No. 14 with a time of 2:16.48. Team members included freshman Kobe Streva, freshman Carson Gagliano, senior Hunter Gaspard and junior Cain Naquin.
The Tigers’ 200-yard freestyle relay is seeded No. 13 with a time of 1:48.62. The team consists of Gaspard, Streva, Gagliano and Dupuy.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Morgan City is seeded No. 11 with a time of 4:10.65. Team members include Gaspard, streva, Gagliano and Dupuy.
On the girls side, Morgan City will compete in the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Morgan City’s 200-yard medley relay is seeded No. 17 with a time of 3:00.56. The relay consists of junior Mattie Fontenot, junior Mallory Fontenot, junior Bailee Loupe and freshman Leah Stockstill.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Morgan City is seeded No. 18 with a time of 2:19.87. Team members include Mattie Fontenot, Stockstill, Loupe and Mallory Fontenot.
Morgan City’s 400-freestyle relay is seeded No. 14 with a time of 5:58.96. The team includes Mattie Fontenot, Loupe, freshman Hannah Adams and Mallory Fontenot.
Division II preliminaries will be held Friday and the finals, Saturday.
