Trio of area teams finish the weekend 1-2

Berwick, Morgan City and Central Catholic finished 1-2 at Berwick High School’s Lady Panther Classic this weekend.
Berwick defeated Morgan City but fell to Vandebilt Catholic and Cecilia.
Morgan City defeated Central Catholic but fell to Kaplan and Berwick.
Central Catholic defeated Assumption but fell to Morgan City and E.D. White.
Berwick recap
Berwick fell 11-1 to Vandebilt Catholic Friday before splitting Saturday’s games, a 7-6 win against Morgan City and an 11-5 loss to Cecilia.
Against Vandebilt Catholic, the Lady Panthers never led, falling behind 4-0 after two innings.
Berwick cut its deficit to 4-1 after three innings, and the score remained the same until Vandebilt Catholic erupted for seven runs in the top of the sixth. The game was called after six innings.
Vandebilt Catholic outhit Berwick 11-2, while the Lady Panthers committed seven errors.
Jaci Arnold led Berwick with a 1-for-2 performance with a double and a run.
Sydney Aucoin suffered the loss. In two innings, she surrendered four runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
On Saturday morning, Berwick broke a 6-all tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning via Arnold’s home run for the victory.
While Morgan City led 1-0 after an inning, Berwick tied it in the bottom of the second.
Morgan City took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third and Berwick retook the lead after scoring a combined three runs in the third and fourth for a 4-3 lead.
Morgan City tied the game at 4 in the top of the fifth before Berwick took the lead again at 6-4 in the bottom of the frame.
The Lady Tigers tied the game at 6 in the top of the sixth before Berwick scored the winning run in the bottom of the frame via Arnold’s home run. Arnold finished 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Morgan City outhit Berwick 13-7, but committed four errors to the Lady Panthers’ three miscues.
Other top offensive contributors for Berwick included Rosalyn Gros, 2-for-3, an RBI and a run; Aucoin, 1-for-4, an RBI; and Jordan Lipari, an RBI.
Lipari earned the complete-game victory. In seven innings, she allowed six runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts.
Against Cecilia, Berwick led just once, scoring the game’s first run in the top of the first.
While Cecilia scored five runs in the bottom of the second, Berwick rallied with three runs combined in the next two innings to cut its deficit to 5-4.
However, Cecilia put the game away with a combined six runs in the fifth and sixth innings, while Berwick added a run in the top of the sixth for the final margin.
Cecilia outhit Berwick 11-5, while Berwick committed five errors to Cecilia’s three miscues.
Aucoin suffered the loss. In two innings, she surrendered five runs on three hits with one strikeout.
Offensively, Lipari led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs and a run. Madison Carline added a 1-for-4 performance with a double and a run
Berwick (5-3) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Central of Baton Rouge in a 4 p.m. contest.
Morgan City recap
Morgan City fell to Kaplan, 4-0, Friday before splitting Saturday’s games, a 6-1 victory against Central Catholic and a 7-6 loss to Berwick.
In Friday’s loss, Kaplan scored three runs in the bottom of the first and another in the fifth.
While Morgan City outhit Kaplan 5-3, the Lady Tigers committed seven errors.
Offensively, Gracie Verrett, Kennedy Hebert, Dwanna LeBeau, Mattie Rivere and Gabrielle Thibodeaux all finished 1-for-3, with LeBeau adding a stolen base.
On the mound, Hebert pitched six innings and surrendered four unearned runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
Against Central Catholic, the game was tied at 1 after an inning, but Morgan City broke it open with five runs in the top of the third.
Hebert finished 1-for-2 with a home run, an RBI and two runs. Other top offensive contributors included Verrett, 2-for-4, a double, an RBI and a run; Scottie Metrejean, 1-for-3, a double and an RBI; Rivere, 2-for-3, a run; and LeBeau and Hallie Blanchard, each an RBI.
On the mound, Hebert tossed a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts. In seven innings, she surrendered an earned run on two hits.

Morgan City took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third, and Berwick retook the lead after scoring a combined three runs in the third and fourth innings for a 4-3 lead.

Verrett led Morgan City with a 3-for-4 performance with a double, two runs and a stolen base, while LeBeau was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Other top offensive contributors included Reilee Bailey, 2-for-3, a run and a stolen base; and Allie Vincent, 2-for-4, a run.
On the mound, Hebert tossed six innings and surrendered seven runs — three earned — on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
Morgan City (5-4) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face South Lafourche in its District 7-4A opener. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
Central Catholic recap
On Friday, Central Catholic run-ruled Assumption, 15-5, in six innings, avenging an earlier season loss to Assumption.
While Central Catholic took a 2-0 lead after an inning, Assumption took its lone lead of the game in the top of the second with four runs.
However, Central Catholic plated the game’s next five runs for a 7-4 lead.
While Assumption scored another run in the top of the fifth, Central Catholic countered with three in the bottom of the fifth and five in the bottom of the sixth to end the ball game.
Central Catholic collected 16 hits in the game.
Taylor Picou led the squad with a 4-for-5 performance with a double, five RBIs, a stolen base and a run. Other top contributors included Brooke Lipari, 2-for-5, a double, three RBIs, two stolen bases and three runs; Emma Aucoin, 3-for-4, three runs; Kelly Russo, 2-for-3, a stolen base, two runs; Kaleigh Navarro, 2-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Tori Estay, 2-for-4, two runs.
Sarah Thomas earned the win. In four innings, she surrendered four earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
On Saturday, Central Catholic fell to Morgan City, 6-1.
While the game was tied at 1 after an inning, Morgan City broke it open with five runs in the top of the third.
Central Catholic was limited to just two hits in the loss, led by Hallie Autin’s 1-for-3 performance with an RBI.
Thomas suffered the loss for Central Catholic.
In six innings, she surrendered three earned runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Later Saturday, Central Catholic fell to E.D. White, 16-6.
While Central Catholic took a 1-0 lead after an inning, E.D. White took the lead for good with five runs in the top of the third.
Central Catholic cut its deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth, but could get no closer as E.D. White plated 11 runs during the next three innings, including three runs in the seventh.
Central Catholic was outhit 14-10 in the loss.
Thomas suffered the loss for the Lady Eagles. In 2.1 innings, she surrendered four earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
Offensively, Aucoin led Central Catholic with a 2-for-5 performance with an RBI and a run, while Russo was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Other top contributors included Autin, 2-for-4, a stolen base and a run; Cameron Breaux, 1-for-1, an RBI; and Picou, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run.
Central Catholic (3-6, 1-1) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Ascension Episcopal in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
