Vandebilt Catholic routs MCHS, 62-0

The Vandebilt Catholic Terriers erased any concern about a hangover following last week's emotional loss to Assumption by demolishing the Morgan City Tigers, 62-0, in Friday's District 7-4A contest at Buddy Marcello Stadium in Houma.
The Terriers (7-2 overall, 3-1 district) scored all 62 points in the first half against the Tigers (3-6, 0-4 district).
Backups and a running clock displayed little fireworks in the second half.
On its first possession, Vandebilt was stopped on fourth down inside the Tigers 15-yard line and nearly allowed a 74-yard touchdown pass on Morgan City's first drive. The pass was called back for offensive interference, and any threat that the game might have been close ended as the Vandebilt scored on its next six possessions.
Defensively, Vandebilt Catholic added three scores.
Junior running back Brennan Rogers got the scoring started when he punched in a 3-yard touchdown run two plays after Brennan Patterson intercepted an Alex Brocato pass.
Vandebilt ran a double-reverse, flea flicker on the first play of its next possession that ended with sophomore quarterback Andrew Robison connecting with senior receiving Roland Johnson for a 61-yard touchdown.
Robison added a 29-yard touchdown strike to Brody Fister, and Rogers added three more touchdown runs before halftime.
As impressive as the offense was, the defense may have had the better half. Vandebilt intercepted Brocato three times and Ike Escort another and forced five punts in the first half. Senior Brennan Porche returned two interceptions for touchdowns, one for 30 yards and another for 50 yards. Junior Clinton Erny added another pick-six.
At halftime, the Terriers had more points (62) than the Tigers had total yards of offense (51).
Rogers led all rushers with 137 yards and four touchdowns on 13 attempts. Robison finished 8-for-15 139 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.
Vandebilt Catholic totaled 334 yards of offense (195 rushing and 139 passing).
Morgan City had 119 yards of offense (63 yards rushing and 56 passing).
Kalen Hillen led Morgan City on the ground with five carries for 37 yards, while Brocato completed 4 of 15 passes for 43 yards with three interceptions.
Ethan Scioneaux had two receptions for 28 yards to lead the Tigers’ pass-catchers.
Morgan City will conclude its season Nov. 4 when it hosts Assumption in a 7 p.m. contest.
