West St. Mary edges past Franklin High Hornets

BALDWIN _ Scottie Gray and Dondre Johnson scored 14 points each while Tywan Polidore added 13 as the West St. Mary Wolfpack edged past the Franklin High Hornets by a 59-51 margin here Tuesday in non-district play at the WSMHS Gym.
West St. Mary _ the District 6-2A Champion with a sparkling 7-0 league record _ outscored Franklin in every quarter, including a slim 9-8 cushion at the end of the opening frame. In the second period, the Wolfpack benefited from an 18-12 run to claim a pulsating 27-20 advantage at the half. West St. Mary outpointed Franklin by a narrow 17-15 margin to secure a 42-35 lead at the end of three quarters. The Wolfpack iced away the hard-fought 59-51 victory with a 17-16 run in the final quarter.
Gray poured in 14 points on six field goals and 2 of 3 free throws. Johnson made good on seven floor shots for his 14 points. Polidore connected on five floor baskets along with 3 of 6 freebies for his 13 points.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wolfpack were: Wayne Armelin, 6; Dunante Charles, 6 and Chris Snowden, 6.
Franklin’s Dwonyell Charles tossed in a game-high 19 points while Kevin Ina drained 14 points. Charles fired in four treys, one deuce and 5 of 7 charity shots. Ina pumped in four deuces, one trey and 3 of 6 shots free throws.
Other top scorers for the Hornets were: Tronyonte Clark, 9 and Jarius Boyd, 7.
West St. Mary will return to action on Thursday at Jeanerette in the District 6-2A regular season finale.
