West St. Mary Wolfpack season comes to an end

BALDWIN _ Top-ranked Many High School Tigers quickly recovered from a slow start Friday, pinning a 56-0 loss on No. 17 West St. Mary Wolfpack in the second round of the State Class 2-A playoffs here at Wolfpack Stadium.
The undefeated Many Tigers gained a berth in Friday’s State Class 2-A quarterfinals after relying on their veteran leadership to turn back the West St. Mary Wolfpack, who entered the second round of the state playoffs for the second time in 10 years.
West St. Mary Coach Clifton Armelin was pleased with his team’s success during the season.
“We had a good season as we accomplished something that many never thought we could,” he said. “I told the seniors it’s not the end but the beginning of something new as you close one chapter of your life and begin something new. For the younger players, we will look to start something new next year as we try and go three rounds (into the state playoffs) or better and it begins in the weight room after the Thanksgiving break.”
West St. Mary delivered a shocking blow to the much-heralded Many Tigers when runningback Wayne Armelin nearly scored early in the first quarter.
While setting the tone, Armelin took the handoff and sprinted 48 yards, reaching the end zone only to have the referees wave off the score, marking the ball at the five-yard line stating he stepped out of bounds.
A short time later disaster stuck, forcing the Wolfpack to turn the ball over to the Tigers, who gained momentum and soared to the huge win.
After a high snap resulted in a 10-yard loss, the Wolfpack was forced to attempt a pass on fourth down which fell incomplete enabling the Tigers to take over, setting the tone the rest of the way.
