Wolfpack tops Jeanerette

JEANERETTE _ Deandre Johnson pumped in a game-high 28 points, leading the West St. Mary Wolfpack to an 81-58 victory over the Jeanerette Tigers in the District 6-2A finale here Thursday at the Jeanerette High School Gym.
Johnson canned 14 field goals on the night to power the West St. Mary Wolfpack _ who captured the 2017 District 6-2A Championship with a flawless 8-0 record.
West St. Mary took a 24-10 lead in the first quarter before holding a 40-22 lead at the half. The Wolfpack went ahead by a 53-40 margin at the end of three quarters. West St. Mary enjoyed a 28-18 scoring barrage in the final quarter to notch the 81-58 win to final the season with a perfect 8-0 record in District 6-2A action.
Johnson led the Wolfpack with 28 points, Dunante Charles fired in 15 points, Chris Snowden had 10 points while Oshay Phillips and Wayne Armelin had five points each.
District 6-2A Champion West St. Mary was seeded 14th in the state prior to Thursday’s victory over Jeanerette.
The Wolfpack should host a first-round playoff game once the pairings are announced.
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association will release its basketball brackets on Monday.
