WSM Wolfpack hang on to top Jeanerette Tigers

BALDWIN _ Tywan Polidore drained 17 points, leading the West St. Mary Wolfpack to a heart-clutching 54-52 District 6-2A victory over the Jeanerette Tigers here Tuesday at the West St. Mary Gymnasium.
West St. Mary (4-0 in district play) overcame a narrow 26-24 halftime cushion. The Wolfpack went on a 16-9 third quarter flurry to gain a 40-35 lead over the Tigers. Jeanerette went on a 17-14 run in the final period but it was too little, too late as the Wolfpack held on for the 54-52 win despite a last-second desperation shot by Jeanerette.
Polidore led the Wolfpack in scoring with 17 points on seven field goals and 3 of 8 freebies. Oshay Phillips and Dunante Charles scored 7 points each while Cameron Blake finished with six points with Wayne Armelin and Chris Snowden tossing in 3 points each and Jesse DeFils adding one point.
Tyrese Baptist led Jeanerette with 18 points.
BALDWIN _ Takylan Hamilton scored nine points while Italy Jack and Chyna Druilhet added seven points apiece, leading the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack to a 25-23 District 6-2A victory over the Jeanerette Lady Tigers here Tuesday at the WSMHS Gym.
West St. Mary opened with a 6-0 lead before Jeanerette used a 12-6 second quarter run to tie the game at 12-12 at the half. At the end of three quarters, Jeanerette clung to a 17-16 lead. West St. Mary went on a 9-6 fourth quarter run, pulling out the 25-23 victory.
Hamilton tossed in nine points while Jack and Druilhet contributed 7 points apiece. Braesha Alexander polished off the West St. Mary scoring with 2 points.
