WSM Wolfpack hold off Jeanerette Tigers

JEANERETTE _ Wayne Armelin and Kharee Lockley scored a pair of touchdowns, leading the West St. Mary Wolfpack to their first win of the season by a score of 36-28 over the Jeanerette Tigers in District 5-2A action here Friday at the JHS Stadium.
West St. Mary (1-4) earned its first 5-2A win of the season after jumping out front by a 28-0 halftime score.
With the win, the Wolfpack handed head coach C. J. Armelin his first win.
Wayne Armelin gave the Wolfpack a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 25-yard scoring jaunt. Later in the quarter, Rodderick Hudson set sail on a 53-yard touchdown, sending the Wolfpack ahead by a 12-0 advantage.
Lockley recovered a fumble and rambled 21 yards for a TD before tacking on the two-point conversion, lifting WSM outfront by a 20-0 cushion. A short time later, Armelin hit paydirt from 11 yards out before adding the two-point conversion, giving the Wolfpack a 28-0 halftime lead.
Jeanerette (0-5, 0-2) scored its first touchdown in the third quarter when Ahmaad Mitchell scored on a six-yard run before adding the two-point conversion.
WSM’s Lockley later hauled in a 12-yard pass from Armelin, giving the Wolfpack a 36-8 lead in the third quarter.
Jeanerette mounted a late rally but fell short as the Wolfpack held on for the 36-28 triumph.
West St. Mary (1-4, 1-1) will host Opelousas Catholic on Thursday for homecoming at Wolfpack Stadium at 7 p.m.
