AgCenter’s LaHouse to hold open house

BATON ROUGE — The LSU AgCenter LaHouse Home and Landscape Resource Center will host its seasonal open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 19.
The fall open house will highlight the healthy home features incorporated into the building and design of LaHouse. Visitors can also explore LaHouse’s many other high-performance home features, free publications, exhibit room and more with experts on hand to answer questions, said LSU AgCenter housing specialist Claudette Reichel.
Healthy home concepts demonstrated at LaHouse include indoor air quality, universal design and integrated pest management, she said. Those qualities make a home a healthy place for children to thrive, reduce asthma and allergy triggers and provide a safe, functional, accessible and convenient home for all ages and stages of life.
LaHouse shows a variety of cost-effective, practical solutions to these and other housing challenges, Reichel said. It’s a research-based demonstration of solutions for sustainable, high-performance housing for the Southern climate and conditions.
Doors open one Saturday each season to accommodate those who cannot visit during regular business hours or who want to speak with experts.
LaHouse is open for self-guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The Resource Center is located off Nicholson Drive at 2858 Gourrier Ave. in Baton Rouge.
LaHouse requests a donation of $5 per adult to help support its educational programming and exhibits.
