Bayou Vista Garden Club begins 2014-15 season

“Water, More Precious Than Gold” was the topic of the September program presented by Bayou Vista Garden Club Vice President Jo Ann Ryan. Ryan is a certified National Garden Club Environmental Consultant.
A handout was provided to members outlining water facts, pollution solutions, watersheds and a marine debris breakdown timetable. Tips on water conservation and avoiding litter run off into waterways were given.
Kim Alcina, club environmental awareness chairman, displayed several bird feeders created by recycling tin cans. Alcina’s focus for upcycling during 2014-15 is to help members attract and feed birds.
BVGC 2014-15 yearbooks were distributed by chairman Janice Verret. Projects, activities and upcoming events were reviewed.
Donna Bucci, club president, served as hostess chairman for the meeting. Members provided dishes for the salad social.
Bucci designed the table centerpiece. She used an oversized margarita glass filled with chrysanthemum, Gerbera daisy, statice, yew, lemon leaf, ficus, liatris and wax flowers.
In other garden club business:
—Bucci announced that the Louisiana Garden Club Federation District 3 Meeting will be sponsored by the St. Martinville Garden Club on Oct. 14.
—The door prize winner was Jean Chauvin.
—The next club meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Bayou Vista Community Center. New members are always welcomed to join.
