Bayou Vista Garden Club holds social

Bayou Vista Garden Club members gathered at the Latin Corner in Morgan City Dec. 5 to celebrate the holiday season. Members participated in a gift exchange.
Hostesses for the meeting were Kim Alcina and Gloria Roy. The hostesses created holiday decorations by “upcycling” items. Table centerpieces were distressed pitchers and watering cans filled with painted branches and ornaments made from burlap scraps, paint sample chips, buttons, bottle caps, book pages and berries. They also created ornament favors for members which were wreath and cardinal designs cut out from Christmas cards and decoupaged onto pieces of old roof slates.
Alcina, club environmental awareness chairman, displayed wreaths she designed using recycled items such as a picture frame, a broken rake and men’s ties.
The first club meeting of 2014 will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Bayou Vista Community Center. Anyone interested in becoming a member is welcomed to attend.
