Bayou Vista Garden Club shares gardening with kids
As part of its Adopt-A-School program commitment, Bayou Vista Garden Club partnered with Bayou Vista Elementary School to implement the National Garden Club’s School Gardens Project. Bayou Vista Garden Club Adopt-A-School Chairman Donna Richard presented a program to the pre-kindergarten and NCP Special Education classes, including reading “Way to Grow! Gardening: Planting and illustrating using a Community Helper Gardeners” display poster, top photo. The students were given an activity booklet to reinforce the lesson. Students then planted herbs in the containers located in the rock garden near the classrooms. The club donated containers, rocks, garden trowels, watering cans and Community Helper identification tags to assist students when maintaining the gardens. With the students in the bottom photo are, Kayla Perry (kneeling) pre-kindergarten 4 teacher; and standing from left, Jo Ann Ryan, club member; Richard; Ashley Chesteen, paraprofessional; Ruth Blocker, teacher’s aide; Colleen Keller, NCP teacher; and Natalie Theriot, nurse. Also assisting was club member Janice Verret.
