Bayou Vista Garden Club teaches students about butterflies

As part of the National Garden Club School Gardens project, Bayou Vista Garden Club Adopt-a-School Chairman Donna Richard and President Donna Bucci presented a program on butterflies to the Bayou Vista Elementary School third- and fourth-grade students.
They used a display board, “Encourage Monarchs in Your Garden,” that showed appropriate host native plants to attract butterflies, habitats to sustain the butterflies, and stages in the life of a monarch. Students then planted, watered, and mulched container butterfly gardens with butterfly weed plants and seeds, lantana and pentas.
The club donated barrel containers, watering cans, plant stakes, mulch, plants and seeds.
