Butler, Cheramie are Children’s Day royalty

Jalen Jamal Butler and Audrey Jane Cheramie were crowned Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival Children’s Day King and Queen Aug. 21 following a random drawing held at the Bayou Vista Community Center Spray Park.
They were presented during the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival Coronation Court on Saturday at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. The coronation featured the crowning of the 2016 adult Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival King and Queen Ray Autrey and Jeanne Marie Hidalgo.
Butler is the 12-year-old son of Joseph Butler II of Morgan City and Chantelle Johnson of New Orleans. He is the grandson of Joseph Butler and Ruth Escort of Morgan City.
The seventh-grader is a student at Morgan City Junior High School and his favorite subject is math. He enjoys baseball, basketball and he is a football player at MCJHS.
Cheramie is the 9-year-old daughter of Justin Cheramie and Nicki Carter of Morgan City. She is the granddaughter of Paul and Jackie Cheramie, and Joellen and Ivy St. Romain of Morgan City, and Jane Marie and Brian Cave of Tennessee.
The fourth-grader is a student at Stephensville Elementary and her favorite subject is math. She enjoys competitive dancing and gymnastics. She is a member of Morgan City Family Church.
Sponsor of Children’s Day is the family of Marion Bergeron of Morgan City and the late Oliver Bergeron.
