Garden tour highlights Bayou Vista Garden Club May meeting

Highlight of the Bayou Vista Garden Club May meeting was the garden tour at the home of Jean and Darryl Chauvin on the Lower Atchafalaya near Patterson. The meeting concluded the current garden club season.
Highlights of the garden tour included Knockout roses, hibiscus, lorepetalum, philodendron, orchid ginger, butterfly ginger, wood violets, hydrangea, daylilies, cast iron plant, mock orange, Louisiana irises, eucalyptus tree, crape myrtles and more. The herb garden contained garlic chives, basil, pineapple sage, parsley, oregano, dill, rosemary, lemon mint, cilantro and Tabasco peppers.
Club members were treated to a meal by hostesses Jean Chauvin and Jo Ann Ryan. The table centerpieces were hydrangea blooms and foliage in antique bottles.
The hostesses also created an Ikebana floral design, “Spring Snowball.” Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement which includes elements representing heaven, earth and man. Their design was composed in an Ikebana vase with a hydrangea blossom, agapanthus stems and leaves, and Indian Hawthorne foliage.
It was announced that National Garden Week will be observed June 1 to 7.
Donna Bucci won the door prize at the conclusion of the meeting.
The next Bayou Vista Garden Club meeting will be Sept. 8 at the Bayou Vista Community Center. The 6:30 p.m. meeting will begin the new garden club season. New members are always welcomed to join.
