Girl Scouts launch ‘Man Enough to Be a Girl Scout’ campaign

NEW ORLEANS — Having a male figure in a young girl’s life is pivotal, both mentally and emotionally. As an organization that develops girl leaders, Girl Scouts Louisiana East has launched the “Man Enough to Be a Girl Scout” campaign in an effort to involve more fathers, father figures and business leaders in the lives of all girls, especially Girl Scouts.
“The Man Enough to Be a Girl Scout campaign is about engaging the fathers and father figures in our girls’ lives as a part of their Girl Scout adventures,” said Erica Spruille, director of Corporate & Annual Family Giving. “The leadership skills they learn are reinforced by these men via their support and approval and solidified by the memories created.”
When a male steps up and participates in the campaign, he is standing with all girls in the community as they strive “to become girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place,” Girl Scouting’s mission statement.
“I always love dad inquiries about how to become involved,” she said. “Every girl needs to hear from her father or father figure how smart and capable she is and what a courageous, confident woman of character she can become.”
According to Spruille, the council is honored to have as its first Man Enough to Be a Girl Scout campaign partners, the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and New Orleans Pelicans.
To join, an individual donation is $30 and a corporate donation is $75. With the donation comes a plethora of incentives. Each donation includes 2016-2017 membership into the Girl Scout Man Enough Club, Man Enough T-shirt, discounted admission to special “Man Enough” events and BOGO tickets for 2017 Cookies & Cocktails Gala with Patron party admission in February, 2017. Register before Nov. 21 to receive one balcony ticket to the Pelicans vs Lakers game on Nov. 29, with additional discounted tickets available.
