Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized during the May 2 St. Mary AARP meeting.

Green is AARP Mother’s Day Queen

St. Mary AARP held its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 2 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City.
Leanord Klutts, owner of Klutts Jewelers in Morgan City, sponsored the meeting’s meal of meat sauce and spaghetti that was prepared by Shirley and Floyd Hymel. St. Mary AARP expressed thanks to Klutts Jewelers for its continued support.
Brenda Green was chosen St. Mary AARP’s Mother’s Day Queen. She was presented a special gift by Treasurer AnnEtta Lombardo. Green wished all mothers “A happy Mother’s Day.”
President Bill Darce reminded everyone of the need for volunteers. St. Mary AARP provides many activities for members and the community, but more volunteers are needed to help make ambitious goals into a reality. He urged residents 55 or older to join the local chapter and become an “AARP volunteer, we need your help, too,” he said.
The St. Mary AARP membership drive for 2016-18 members began in January. Anyone interested in joining may contact the St. Mary AARP office at 985-384-2277 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Membership dues are $12 per person for the two-year period.
The next St. Mary AARP Chapter trip will be June 12 to Paragon Casino in Marksville. For trip information call the AARP office.
Darce announced the next AARP dance will be held at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center from 7 to 11 p.m. May 28. Music will be by Tee Nah Nah. Call the AARP office for ticket information.
The next AARP meeting will be June 6. Activities begin at 4:30 p.m.
