Gumbo Cookoff set Oct. 8-9 in New Iberia

NEW IBERIA — The 27th Annual World Championship Gumbo Cookoff, a two-day event bringing together locals and visitors to celebrate Cajun cuisine and music, will be held Oct. 8 and 9 in New Iberia.
A free shuttle will be available on Oct. 9. The shuttle will be busing visitors from Musson Patout Automotive on 214 U.S. 90 West /Frontage Road to the corner of French and Main Street in New Iberia, according to the Iberia Parish Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Taking over historical downtown Main Street, the World Championship Gumbo Cookoff is fondly dubbed “Cajun Creole Foodfest” with team members cooking their favorite Cajun and Creole dishes for lunch.
The event also includes two mini-competitions — Meanest Beans and Youth Gumbo Cookoff — throughout the day Oct. 8. The main event happens Sunday, Oct. 9, with 100 teams competing for the title of “champion” of the best gumbo in the world.
There will a Roux Run on Oct. 8 and live music Saturday and Sunday.
