Johnson part of Aug. 16 anti-bullying program

Jessicah Johnson, of Morgan City, will be among the youth performing Aug. 16 during the “Parent Rapp” presented at the Warren Harang Municipal Auditorium in Thibodaux. The event is hosted by 4U Organization, in Lockport, and Tru Hustlers MC, in Thibodaux, in collaboration with the City of Thibodaux.
A variety of performances and speakers will present from 1 to 6 p.m. “I think this is a great event because many people never publically do an event that puts this issue to the forefront,” said Johnson. “I’m looking forward to performing.”
This is an anti-bullying/cyber-bullying initiative designed to inform parents and officials of the need to prevent these unseen crimes that have brought about unnecessary youth deaths and family crisis, according to the organizations news release.
Informational resources will allow parents to learn the warning signs of bullying; build a prevention parent and student team and reduce the fear associated with reporting bullying.
The anti-bullying event will show how social media is used as a tool to bully, harass and degrade youth.
“This type of behavior can and has led to negative outcomes such as drug use, drinking, depression and even death,” said 4U’s Shandra Streams. “We have begun this initiative due to the increased number of incidents occurring in our communities.”
Through today’s technology, people don’t even have to give their true identity to harass, degrade, terrorize or stalk an individual, the organizations said.
The organizers hope that the message that children should be able to attend school to obtain an education free of harassment and the torment of improper use of social media.
