The Louisiana Lions Camp enters its 59th year this summer when camp opens May 29 in Leesville. More than 23,650 children have attended the camp held on 170 acres of piney woodlands.
Lions Club members throughout the state are actively working to see that youth with diabetes, pulmonary disorders, and mental and physical challenges are able to experience a life-impacting week.
There is no cost to parents of the campers. Morgan City Lions Club is seeking special needs youth wishing to participate in the annual camp.
The camp operates a one-week session for youth ages 5 to 15 with pulmonary disorders. Two, one-week sessions for mentally challenged youth ages 8 to 19 and two, one-week sessions for youth with diabetes ages 6 to 14.
Children are treated to a full range of activities including swimming, arts and crafts, archery, gun safety, sports and nature lore.
The Louisiana Lions League for Crippled Children operates and manages the camp which is financed by volunteer contributions by Lions Clubs and non-Lion organizations and individuals, according to the Louisiana Lions Camp news release.
Anyone may make a financial contribution toward the operations of the camp. A Life Membership costs $100 and can be purchased through a Lions Club.
