MCHS Class of 1958 reunion held

The Morgan City High School Class of 1958 held its 58-year reunion April 15-17.
Theme for the class’ 11th gathering was “58th for the Class of 1958.”
Classmates in attendance traveled from across Louisiana, and from New York, Florida, Missouri, California and Washington State.
Activities included breakfasts and a seafood buffet at the Holiday Inn in Morgan City, and a reunion dinner and program April 16 at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City.
Highlights of the dinner program included a welcome speech by class president Carole Webster Arcemont, a blessing and invocation by class vice president William “Bill” Vincent, remarks by Master of Ceremonies Dr. Whybra Duay, a financial report by Flavia Verrett Lancon, and a memorial ceremony of deceased classmates by Jerry Cunningham.
Classmates were led in a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by Sandra Voss Guarisco, wife of classmate Dr. Charles Guarisco.
A comedy skit, written by Lancon and directed by Shirley Sherrill Trependahl, titled “A Reunion Carol,” was performed by classmates in the roles of the reluctant classmate (Priscilla Hebert Sampey), the ghost of reunions past (Melvin Spinella), the ghost of reunions present (Eloise Cloutier Verret) and the ghost of reunions future (Vincent), as well as the last surviving classmate (Robert Bigler), his wife (Adrienne Tibbs Bigler), and a nurse (Brenda Shirley Gebhart).
Recognition was also given to special guests Calvin Bourgeois, former band director; his daughter, Deborah Bourgeois; and Oswald Melancon, former guidance counselor.
