Patterson Garden Club planted a tree in honor of former Patterson mayor James L. “Jimmy” Bernauer as part of its Arbor Day celebration held Feb. 21. An Arbor Day Program Cover Contest was held at Hattie Watts Elementary School in Patterson in association with the Patterson Garden Club Arbor Day ceremony held Feb. 21. In a three-way tie for first place were, front row from left, McKenzie Verdun, Kierra Prevot and Collan St. Germain. Patterson Garden Club holds Arbor Day ceremony

Patterson Garden Club held an Arbor Day ceremony Feb. 21 at Hattie Watts Elementary in Patterson. Students gave tree-related presentations.
An Arbor Day Program Cover Contest was held at the school. A three-way tie was declared. Winners were McKenzie Verdun, Kierra Prevot and Collan St. Germain.
A tree was planted in honor of James L. “Jimmy” Bernauer, the mayor of Patterson from 1995 to 2006, and he served as a Patterson City Councilman for 28 years. He is the husband of Patterson Garden Club member Lena Bernauer.
The tree was planted in front of the new City Hall complex. According to Patterson Garden Club, Jimmy Bernauer was instrumental in securing the funds to build at no cost to the citizens of Patterson.
