Patterson Garden Club holds meeting

The Patterson Garden Club held its monthly meeting Feb. 10 at the home of Iris Roy. Vice President Evelyn Estay called the meeting to order, and Rosa Butler led the group in prayer.
Horticulture Chairman Gretchen Lambert presented the program titled, “Sweet Smelling Insecticides.” Lambert, an avid gardener, gave hints on using herbs and other organics around the home and garden.
Patterson Garden Club will host the February birthday party at the Patterson Healthcare Center at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 27. Roy, Ways and Means Committee chairman, invited all members to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Ginger Griffin, Arbor Day Committee chairman, gave an update on progress being made to replace trees or markers that may have been damaged or destroyed. The replacement project is in lieu of holding an Arbor Day ceremony usually conducted at Hattie Watts Elementary. She also advised the group that judging for the annual door decorating contest at Hattie Watts will be held on April 1.
The Scholarship Committee will be taking applications for the annual Garden Club Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a Patterson High School graduating senior. Sandra Underwood, chairman, updated the club on requirements and the selection process.
Hostesses for the meeting were Lambert and Donna Ruffin. Daisy Leblanc won the half-and-half drawing at the close of the meeting.
Next month’s meeting will be March 17. Hostesses will be Griffin and Butler.
