Play, poetry contest entries sought by literary festival

The Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival is seeking entries for its One-Act Play Contest and its Poetry Contest. The festival will be held March 30 to April 3, 2016.
This is the 30th birthday celebration for both the One-Act Play Contest and the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival.
One-act play contestants will vie for the $1,500, have their play presented as a professional, staged reading at the next festival and get VIP all-access pass for two years to the festival.
The winner’s piece will also be published in “Bayou” magazine. The top nine finalists will be named on the festival’s website and each be provided a panel pass to the festival.
The contest will be judged by the University of New Orleans’ Creative Writing Workshop and the Department of Film, Theatre, and Communication Arts.
Submissions are accepted by mail or online. For full contest instructions visit the festival’s website at www.tennesseewilliams.net. Entry fee is $25 and deadline entry is Nov. 1.
The Poetry Contest is in its sixth year.
Poetry submissions will be judged by Louisiana native and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Yusef Komunyakaa.
The grand prize includes $1,500, a public reading of the winning poem at the festival and a VIP All-Access pass to the next festival.
The winner’s work will be published in “Louisiana Cultural Vistas” Magazine. The top nine finalists will be named on the festival’s website and will each receive a 2016 Festival panel pass.
All writers who have not yet published a book of poetry are eligible to enter. Submissions should include two to four original poems of any style or theme with a combined length of up to 400 lines.
