St. Mary AARP holds April meeting

On April 6, St. Mary AARP held its monthly meeting and dinner. IberiaBank sponsored the beef stew meal that was served. Cooks for the meal were Mac and Myrt McNemar, and Billy and Judy Giroir.
After dinner, representatives from IberiaBank addressed the members. Also speaking to the group were Brian Johnson with Heart of Hospice and Ophthalmologist Dr. Jared Thurston.
Entertainment for the night was by the Men in Black, a drag queen and a gorilla. They performed a dance choreographed by Lou Campos.
Myrt McNemar was recognized in the monthly “meet the board” segment. She is one of the longest tenured board members and is heavily involved with running all the daily aspects of St. Mary AARP.
Announcements included the Senior Citizens Seminar by District Attorney Bo Duhe to be held at the Cypress Bayou Casino Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 16.
St. Mary AARP will hold elections in November. Members interested in running for the board of directors or an officer position should fill out a ballot that is included in the monthly newsletter.
The next meeting will be today. Dinner will be meat sauce spaghetti. Sponsors are Klutts Jewelers and A.J. Dohmann.
