Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized during the June 6 St. Mary AARP meeting.

St. Mary AARP holds June meeting

St. Mary Parish AARP held its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City.
Prior to the meeting, Hubert Francis entertained the 250 members in attendance with dance music from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Bingo followed.
Meeting and meal co-sponsors were The Medicine Clinic of Morgan City and Chabill’s Tire and Auto Service, with numerous locations. The meal consisted of barbecued chicken, potatoes and dessert, prepared by Mac McNemar and Pat Fryer.
An opening tribute by Gorden Smith was given to all area veterans and especially those who participated in the D-Day invasion. Flag Day was also celebrated by the local U.S. Coast Guard honor guard consisting of Marine Science Technician 3 Eric Regalado, MST3 Joshua Riedel and MST3 Karl Haslauer.
The Medicine Clinic’s Dr. Natalie Dishman gave a short presentation. Carey Barron of Chabill’s Tire Traxx spoke of the necessity of good tire safety.
President Bill Darce made the following announcements:
—Seats are available on the Mackinaw Island and Smokey Mountain trips scheduled for this year.
—The June 21 chapter meal will be at 6 p.m. at Tampico Restaurant in Morgan City.
—The July 26 chapter meal will be held at 6 p.m. at El Toro in Morgan City.
—Bingo is played from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday with a noon break for lunch at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center. Hamburger and hot dog meals are offered for sale.
—St. Mary AARP’s dance is from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 18 with music by RJM and the Full Moons Band. Tickets are $8 in advance and $12 at the door. Call Darce at 985-519-6050 for details.
