Birthday and anniversary celebrants were recognized during the St. Mary AARP Jan. 5 meeting. The next meeting will be Feb. 2 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City.

St. Mary AARP holds magical meeting on Jan. 5

On Jan. 5, St. Mary AARP held its monthly meeting and dinner at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City. Lirette Ford Lincoln Mercury sponsored the meal of meat sauce spaghetti. Cooks for the evening were Myrt and Mac McNemar, and Craig and Winnie Theriot.
Speakers were Ronnie Lirette and St. Mary Parish Councilman Sterling Fryou. Lirette thanked members for their patronage. Fryou wished everyone a happy and wonderful 2015.
Area magician Glenn Ghirardi provided entertainment. As part of the show, St. Mary AARP President Curtis Leonard tried unsuccessfully to lift a small one pound box that had some sort of “curse” on it.
The organization’s monthly “Meet the Board” featured Vice President Floyd Hymel. Besides being one of the AARP cooks, he also helps organize AARP trips and calls bingo. He was thanked for his service to the organization.
St. Mary AARP’s monthly dance will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday. It will feature the announcement of its 2015 Mardi Gras king and queen prior to the start of the dance.
In other St. Mary AARP business:
—Members were reminded to show membership cards around town for possible discounts. Any businesses interested in offering discounts to St. Mary AARP members should call the office at 985-384-2277.
—The next meeting will be Feb. 2. It will be co-sponsored by Twin City Funeral Home and Patterson State Bank. Attendees will be served chili with crackers and king cake. Entertainment will be by hypnotist Tracy Vining.
