St. Mary AARP installs board of directors

Installation of St. Mary AARP Chapter 4435’s newly elected board of directors was the highlight of the organization’s meeting held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7. They will serve a two-year term starting January 2016.
The meal sponsor for the meeting was Teche Regional Medical Center. Teche Regional representatives Richard Baland and Dr. David Benson spoke briefly to the membership. Dr. William Cefalu, a local internist, also addressed the membership.
Preparing the meal of roast beef and mashed potatoes for the 265 chapter member in attendance were cooking team members of Floyd and Shirley Hymel.
January 2016 marks the beginning of a new St. Mary AARP membership period. New and current members may sign up for the 2016-17 membership period at the AARP office located at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center, 4014 Chennault St. in Morgan City. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
On Dec. 10, 40 St. Mary AARP volunteers prepared and delivered 330 Christmas fruit baskets to AARP members that were 80 years of age and older.
Sponsors for this annual basket event were Teche Regional, Pye Brownell, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert and St. Mary Parish Assessor Jarrod Longman.
The membership also expressed thanks for support to Urgent Care of Morgan City, MidSouth Bank, M C Bank and Grant Prideco.
