St. Mary AARP members celebrating birthdays and anniversaries in December.

St. Mary AARP installs officers, board

The St Mary AARP held its monthly meeting and dinner on Dec. 2.
Teche Regional Medical Center was the sponsor and had several representatives were on hand to meet with the members.
The Tuneweavers performed. They sang a medley of songs from their Christmas concert.
Vice President Curtis Leonard then opened and lead the meeting. AnnEtta Lombardo led the group in prayer and grace and Gordon Smith sang the national anthem. The members then ate a meal of roast beef with gravy and cream potatoes. Volunteers and the members from Teche Regional served the dinners.
After dinner, Sabrina Roy from Teche addressed the members. Bryan Johnson from Heart of Hospice then spoke about the hospice organization.
Helen Ross installed new officers and board members to serve for the next two years.
The New Year’s Eve dance was announced. Rockin’ Oldies will be playing from 8 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31. The tickets will be $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
The next Paragon Casino trip will be on Jan. 12. Members are asked to contact the office at 384-2277 to reserve a spot on the bus.
Also announced is that the membership drive is still going on. Through January 2014 memberships are $10 for a two years. The membership includes all of the benefits of having a St Mary AARP membership. Details are on www.stmaryaarp.com.
The group thanked its sponsors in 2013 who helped AARP celebrate its 25th Mardi Gras and 25 years as an organization.
The next meeting is Jan. 6. The meal will be meat sauce spaghetti cooked by Myrt and Mac McNemar and Pat Fryer.
