St. Mary winners in 4-H Commodity Cookery Contest named

The St. Mary Parish 4-H Program conducted its annual 4-H Commodity Cookery Contest on Nov. 8. The contest was conducted in the kitchen of the 4-H office located in the St. Mary Parish Courthouse.
The Cookery Contests was divided into six categories, eggs, beef, poultry, seafood, sugar and rice. The rice Category was new to the contest.
The contest requires 4-H’ers to prepare a homemade dish from scratch that meets the requirements in each category. While the dishes were being judged, the contestants participated in a “Zumba” class taught by 4-H Junior Leader Jhalon Thomas.
“Many thanks to all our judges and volunteers who generously volunteered their time to help in the success of a traditional and fun event,” said Adriana Drusini, Louisiana AgCenter Extension Service associate agent in charge of 4-H youth development in St. Mary Parish.
