Umezulike honored

Doris N. Umezulike, granddaughter of Foster D. Johnson of Morgan City and the late Doris G. Johnson, was honored and received numerous awards this year, according to Foster D. Johnson.
On Feb. 26, she received the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists award of excellence for outstanding achievement, leadership potential and determination to serve humanity in the field of science and technology. She was also honored with the Texas ACT Council Texas Student Achievement Award for scoring excessively above entry level on her ACT exam prior to entering her senior year.
From June 27-July 6, Umezulike, represented her school, Goose Creek Memorial High School in Baytown, Texas, at the 2015 National Student Leadership Conference at Yale University in Hartford, Connecticut. She attended the Law and Advocacy Program.
She plans to earn a law degree and has been invited to attend numerous universities including — Yale, Stanford and Harvard.
Umezulike was also a part of the Duke University Talent Search throughout her junior and senior high school years.
The senior is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. She is also the secretary for the Baytown Chapter of Top Teens of America.
Umezulike plays the flute and is a flute section leader in the marching band, a member of the flag squad, sings in her church choir and is a praise dancer in her church.
She is the daughter of Dr. Janice M. Johnson-Umezulike, a 1979 graduate of Morgan City High School, and Dr. Bedford N. Umezulike of Baytown, Texas.
