Physician honored with certification

Dr. Peter Abel was recently honored with a specialized board certification, awarding him a Diplomat of the American College of Clinical Lipidology.
The American Board of Clinical Lipidology is an independent physician-certifying organization offering the highest benchmark of professional competency in clinical lipidology.
This distinction makes Abel the only cardiologist in Louisiana who is board certified in cardiovascular disease and lipidology. The study of lipids is used by physicians to further address the prevention and treatment of heart disease and diabetes.
Abel has been practicing cardiology in St. Mary Parish for over 26 years. He holds a Master’s Degree in exercise physiology, and his medical degree fis rom Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. His post-graduate training includes internship, residency and a cardiology fellowship at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans.
Most recently, Abel started a specialized clinic, Prevention Plus, that is dedicated to helping reduce the risk for heart attacks and strokes, including evaluation and treatment that aims to go beyond standard care. Prevention Plus clinics are in Thibodaux, Morgan City and Pierre Part.
