‘Battle on the Basin’ slated for Sept. 6-7
The “Battle on the Basin” 2014 Championship Boat Races will be held Sept. 6 and 7 at the Russo Boat Landing on La. 70 and will help raise money for the Morgan City Volunteer Fire Department, according to a Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau news release.
The Deep South Racing Association hosts the races.
The event begins at 11 a.m. each day and is presented by the Morgan City Volunteer Fire Department.
Work has been done at the boat ramp with the help of the St. Mary Parish Council to where almost everyone attending will have front row seats, the release stated. Food booths will be selling various food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Admission will be $10 per adult, $5 per child, and $10 for each ice chest per day.
The Morgan City Volunteer Fire Department provides an extrication team for the area of Calumet Bridge to Patterson and Morgan City to the Amelia Bridge. The department also provides medical assistance for the same area and additional firefighter and support personnel to the Morgan City Fire Department, the release said.
The event will help raise funds for the volunteer fire department to improve, buy more, and maintain equipment to better serve the community, according to the release.
