‘Handcrafted Treasures’ exhibit opens Thursday

The Louisiana State Museum – Patterson’s newest exhibit, Handcrafted Treasures from the Louisiana Crafts Guild, opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at 118 Cotten Road, Patterson, according to a news release.
The exhibit will last for a year and can be viewed from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. The exhibit displays a variety of crafts made by 16 different Louisiana Crafts Guild member artists, showcasing their creative expression and artistic excellence in Fine Craft, the release stated. Admission is free.
Crafts on display include ceramics, jewelry, dolls, glass works, and many other fine crafts made entirely by hand. Highlights include delicate glass sculptures created by Simone Little, whimsical papier mâché animal masks made by Season Bivens, and colorful “pysanky” eggs painted by Nicole Holcombe, according to the release.
“It’s a celebration of all things handmade,” Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne said in the news release. “This exhibit includes some of the finest and most dynamic craft artists in Louisiana.”
The Louisiana Crafts Guild is a juried organization of Fine Crafts Artisans located throughout the state of Louisiana and the southern region of the United States. Because of the stringent jury requirements and dedication to excellence in fine craft, only three out of every 10 applicants is approved for membership, the release stated.
