104 ballots cast in Oct. 19 election

A total of 104 ballots have been cast parish-wide during absentee voting in advance of the Oct. 19 election which will include four tax issues and one special election.
Registrar of Voters Jolene Holcombe said of the 104 votes, 30 were in Franklin and 74 in Morgan City. Of that total, 47 were mail-in ballots, while the remaining were residents who walked into the registrar’s office on either the third floor of the courthouse in Franklin or the registrar’s branch office in Morgan City at 301 Third St.
Voters may vote early in either office regardless of address, according to Holcombe.
Early voting for the Oct. 19 election continues through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Issues on the ballot are:
—Fifth Ward Special School District 1 - Bond Proposition (Issue $21 million general obligation bonds for 20 years). The election includes Precincts 24A, 25, 26, 27, 28, parts of 24 and 25A, 29 and 30 in Patterson and Bayou Vista. There are 5,945 registered voters eligible for this election. Holcombe said, so far, 49 votes have been cast during absentee voting.
—Wax Lake East Drainage District – Proposition (Tax Renewal - 3.2 mill property tax for 10 years). The election includes Precincts 31, 32, parts of 33, 34 and 25 in Berwick and Bayou Vista. Some 10,735 are eligible to vote, and 73 have done so during early voting.
—Gravity Sub-Drainage District 1 of the Gravity Drainage District 2 – Proposition (Tax Renewal - 9.95 mills property tax for 10 years). The election includes Precinct 31 in Bayou Vista. There are 2,145 registered voters eligible for this election. Of them, eight have voted already.
—Recreation District 1 – Proposition (Millage Renewal - 3 mill property tax for 10 years). The election includes parts of Precincts 46 and 47 in Siracusa and Amelia. Only 813 people are eligible to vote for this proposition. One vote has been cast.
—Alderman, Town of Baldwin - Special Election. There are 1,506 registered voters for this election, and 30 of them have cast their ballots.
