150 years for Mount Pilgrim Baptist

Daisy Howard-Douglas speaks Sunday during a ceremony dedicating a highway marker to Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, which observed its 150th anniversary with the new marker and a special church program. The church, 113 Federal Ave., Morgan City, was built on land donated in 1865 to serve newly freed African Americans and was officially organized in 1868, only five years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
