3 businesses honored for 50-year, 90-year anniversaries
Three businesses that have held a presence in the parish for a combined nearly 200 years were recognized Wednesday at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City.
The St. Mary Chamber of Commerce honored L-H Printing, Oceaneering and G&J Land Marine Food Distributors at its business luncheon.
L-H Printing & Office Supplies in Morgan City was recognized for its 90th anniversary in the parish. Damon Robison of L-H Printing said the company was honored to be held in such high esteem as companies such as G&J and Oceaneering. “It’s been our pleasure to do business in the Morgan City area and look forward to many more years of serving you guys,” Robison said.
Chamber President Donna Meyer said the businesses contributions to the area go way beyond just doing business as usual.
Oceaneering International was also awarded a plaque for its 50 years of service in the community. Oceaneering Vice President of the Americas Region Pat Mannina said Oceaneering’s founders started in Morgan City with some garden hose and a water bucket when they decided to become deep sea divers.
“Fifty years later Oceaneering is trading on Wall Street, has a CAPEX of nearly $8 billion, a pretty remarkable story,” Mannina said. Mannina thanked the business community for the support over that time period.
G&J Land Marine Food Distributors has been in business for 50 years. Erik Lind and Mike Lind of G&J accepted the award. Erik Lind said 50 years ago his grandparents decided to start their own catering business supplying food to the offshore rigs and platforms.
G&J started out as a 3,000 square-foot facility on Front Street and is now 15,000 square feet, Lind said. “We hope to keep growing for another 50 years, and we’re deeply committed to St. Mary Parish,” Lind said. G&J may break ground on a new facility in Berwick after undergoing a feasibility analysis and planning, he said. “But no matter what the decision is, we are committed to St. Mary. We’re staying in St. Mary,” Lind said.
