Atchafalaya Basin Program to hold public meetings in November

The state Department of Natural Resources’ Atchafalaya Basin Program will hold three public meetings to discuss and receive community input on its Fiscal Year 2016 Annual Plan.
A list of proposed projects in the ABP Annual Plan for FY 2016 has been drafted by the Department of Natural Resources and the Atchafalaya Basin Research and Promotion Board, which oversees the program.
The first public meeting was held Wednesday at Plaquemine. The next meeting is at 6 p.m. today at City Hall, 1007 Amy St., in Henderson, and the final meeting is at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium, 728 Myrtle St., in Morgan City.
After the public meetings, in the final steps of approval and implementation, the plan will be presented to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the state Legislature in its next regular legislative session. Water management and access projects are considered in this process developed in 2008 by Act 606, as a way to conserve, restore and enhance the resources of the Atchafalaya Basin.
All interested in the program projects are encouraged to attend. A copy of the draft plan is available for review online at www.basin.la.gov.
