Bagwell named interim school super

Dr. Teresa Bagwell will serve as interim superintendent while the St. Mary Parish School Board conducts a search for a new chief.
Bagwell will take over the helm on May 18 when current superintendent Dr. Donald Aguillard begins his new position with the Lafayette Parish School Board.
Bagwell, who was named as interim by the school board Thursday, has served as assistant superintendent in St. Mary since July 1, 2014. She has 31 years of experience in education and previously served as the principal of Berwick Junior High.
School board president Ginger Griffin said the search for a new superintendent is under way.
“We hope to have a new superintendent in place by mid-June,” Griffin said.
Aguillard, attending his final St. Mary School Board meeting, announced new principals for the 2015-16 school year will include Kristi Estay at Centerville School, Shantell Toups at M.D. Shannon Elementary, Donald Sanders at Raintree Elementary and Kiante Gunner at Lagrange Elementary.
In other business the school board:
—Passed a resolution levying the 2015 property tax millages.
—Approved use of the Morgan City High School campus by the City of Morgan City for after school activities.
—Recognized principals of the year Claire Guarisco, Bayou Vista Elementary; Molly Stadalis, Franklin Junior High; and Rachael Credeur, Patterson High School.
—Recognized students of the month Jayde Lasseigne, a fifth grader at Berwick Elementary School; Chloe Simpson, a fifth grader at Centerville Elementary; Tyler Besse, a fifth grader at M.E. Norman Elementary.
—Recognized employees of the month Dominic Ribardi, custodian at Berwick Elementary; Jamie Lancon, librarian at Centerville Elementary; and Brandy Smith, P.E. teacher at M.E. Norman Elementary.
—Recognized Zoie Dupre, an eighth grader at Berwick Junior High, as the top Word Millionaire. Zoie read more than 7 million words during the 2014-2015 school year.
—Recognized the award of Principals’ Association scholarships to Leanne Price of Morgan City High School, Taylor Fegenbush of Berwick High School and Natalie Hughes of Franklin Senior High.
