Baldwin parade is Saturday
Baldwin’s Mardi Gras Parade rolls Saturday at noon.
It begins on Main Street at Sager Brown Road, proceeds to the signal light and turns left on Martin Luther King Street, then left on Bollard Street and ends on Sunset Street.
Police Chief Harry Smith Jr. said there will be absolute zero tolerance for any unlawful activity.
The Newcomers Club parade that has been held in St. Martinville for decades was cancelled recently in a spat with city officials.
Baldwin Mayor Donna Lewis Lanceslin said three floats have been granted permission to participate in the town parade Saturday.
Lanceslin said she asked organizers to supplement police presence with additional officers if possible.
“We will have a safe Mardi Gras,” Lanceslin said. “There will be officers present.”
