Bayou Vista fire

A 29-year-old woman, accused of setting her boyfriend’s clothes on fire in a closet at her home, is cooling off in jail today, a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s spokesman said.
Robyn Blanc, 29, of 1313 Middle St., Bayou Vista, was charged with simple arson at 12:49 a.m. today, Lt. Sennet Wiggins said.
Blanc did not make any admissions as to the motive for the fire, he said.
The fire was reported to 911 at 10:01 a.m. Bayou Vista firefighter Josh Ashley said personnel were on the scene at 10:04 a.m. and fire trucks stayed there until 2:30 p.m.
Eleven firefighters from Bayou Vista, 15 from Morgan City and seven from Berwick responded to the call as repeated calls for mutual aid from Bayou Vista were made, Ashley said.
In the call fighters received, the dispatcher stated a girlfriend had set her boyfriend’s clothes on fire, Ashley said.
The origin of the fire was in the bedroom, and no accelerant is believed to have been used, he said.
There were no injuries, but a dog was killed in the blaze, he added.
Ashley said Blanc wasn’t home when officers arrived.
The fire to the single residence caused significant damage, Ashley said.
A joint investigation is continuing into the fire by the Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department, State Fire Marshal’s office and St. Mary Sheriff’s Department.
Blanc remains jailed today with no bail set.
