Bids for two local flood control jobs due in next week

Members of the St. Mary Parish Council made quick work of a short agenda during their regular meeting Wednesday.
In announcements parish President Paul Naquin said bids will be received next week on the Hanson Canal and Yellow Bayou flood protection project. He added that he was to be taking part in the Atchafalaya Basin high water tour today with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Business items handled by the council included:
—Resolutions passed on certificates of substantial completion on River Road and Carol Road concrete repairs, and the Harry P. Williams Memorial Airport pump station rehab project; and endorsement of participation in the Enterprise Zone program by Bollinger Morgan City LLC and Bollinger Amelia Repair LLC.
—Award of $10,000 to 3rd Ward City Marshal’s Office toward purchase of department automobiles. The allocation is made up of $6,000 from the gaming fund and $4,000 from Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 three-tenths sales tax fund.
—Approval of requests by Councilman Lionel “Butch” Metz to transfer Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 three-tenths percent sales tax funds in the amounts $2,500 to the Town of Baldwin for Baldwin Little League to purchase a score board; $3,000 to Recreation District 5 for its summer youth program; and $5,000 to the Town of Baldwin for its summer program.
—Approval of a request by Councilman David Hanagriff to transfer $7,500 from the Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 three-tenths percent sales tax fund to the City of Franklin for improvements to Caffery Park and to purchase equipment for the Dixie Youth Program. Hanagriff said the funds will be used to prepare the park for a regional Dixie Youth tournament for 10- and 12-year-olds that will be played at the Franklin park on July 18-22.
—Approval of a request by Councilman Glen Hidalgo to transfer $2,500 from the Wards 5 and 8 three-tenths percent sales tax fund to Recreation District 3 for portable pitcher mounds at Bayou Vista Community Center Complex.
