Brittany’s Project event kicks off Friday

Brittany’s Project raises funds to build an activity center for individuals with disabilities to enjoy life through recreation, social events and support. At the 5th Annual Brittany’s Project fundraiser March 18-19, 2016, a dream is realized as the groundbreaking for the activity center will be held at noon March 19 on the festival grounds, 323 Oaklawn Bridge Approach Road, Franklin.
Brittany’s Project currently offers educational seminars on Medicaid, waivers, guardianship, wills and more as well as sponsoring a summer camp for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities each July. In addition, Brittany’s Project hosts an activity each month which can include a dance, Valentines party, prom, swimming, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas party, movie night and more for its patrons to enjoy social interaction with their peers.
This event is the project’s major fundraiser.
The event kicks off Friday, March 18 with a cruise through the moss-draped streets of downtown Franklin, culminating with live music at the Bayou Side by Old Soul from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday, March 19, the day opens on the festival grounds with tractor pulls beginning at 9am - 11am and rat rods beginning their warmup. The groundbreaking follows at noon, and Rat Rod races and burnouts follow from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
A car show will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and an awards ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m.
In addition to the races, there are food booths, craft booths and a great atmosphere with lots of activities for the kids as well including horse and pony rides, K9 presentations at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., a magic show at 12:45 p.m., a barrel train, games, face painting and an appearance by the Easter Bunny.
The live music lineup Saturday begins at 10:30 a.m., when the Yum Yum Band takes the stage until noon, followed by LA Jukebox from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Waylon Thibodeaux Band entertains from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the Bad Boyz Band closes the night from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
