CAA sets uniform drive

Summertime Fun and Sun is the goal for children everywhere, and for the staff, board members and parents of St. Mary Community Action Agency Head Start Program, gearing up for a productive and successful 2016-2017 school year is an ongoing process.
Almetra J. Franklin, CEO-Head Start Administrator, said, “We are gearing up with trainings, innovative techniques, and strategies directed towards the best Early Childcare services for the children in our care.”
Franklin emphasized that St. Mary CAA is a 501 (c)3 tax-exempt, human service organization that has helped people throughout St. Mary Parish since 1967. “We take great pride in being an equal opportunity agency,” Franklin said.
The agency maintains and operates 18 facilities, including 13 Head Start Centers, and two central office locations in St. Mary and Vermilion Parishes.
The Head Start Program services are free and open to all children between the ages of three and five who meet all current approved guideline requirements. Standard uniform colors for Head Start children are navy blue pants, shorts, dresses, or shorts and white or blue polo style shirts, short or long sleeves.
St. Mary CAA is once again sponsoring a school supply drive. “Many of us know or know of children and families that can use a little extra help,” Franklin said. “These donations will help families in ensuring their children have all of the necessary items to begin the school year ready to learn.”
Needed supplies include:
Construction paper
Box of 16 color crayons
Fiskars scissors
Glue
Kleenex
Liquid hand soap
Washable marker
Doodle pad
Paper towels
Franklin said donations will also be helpful in assisting the agency with non-federal shares if in-kind funds. Anyone interested in donating can contact Delores Stewart at 337-828-5703 for more information. All donations can be dropped off at 1407 Barrow St., Franklin.
