Greg Aucoin

Campaign 2014

MORGAN CITY — City of Morgan City attorney Greg Aucoin has announced his candidacy for the Division “F” judgeship of the 16th Judicial District.
The 16th Judicial District is comprised of St. Mary, Iberia and St. Martin parishes. The election for the division “F” seat will be Nov. 4 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Edward M. Leonard whose term will expire in 2014.
Aucoin has been involved in public service his entire professional career having spent over 20 years as an assistant district attorney; 10 years as a staff attorney with the Office of the Public Defender; and the past 10 years as the attorney for the City of Morgan City.
With 37 years of courtroom experience, Aucoin has defined the most important values he will bring to the bench as independence, respect, compassion and temperament, a news release stated. He credits these values to his commitment to family, which he feels plays a significant role in his life.
“A judge should never leave his common sense outside the courthouse, but rather, he should take it with him to the bench. He should interpret the law impartially with emphasis on the specific facts of each case regardless of the political implications of his decision,” Aucoin stated.
Aucoin has served on the Morgan City Harbor and Terminal District; St. Mary Parish Library Board; St. Mary Parish Council Charter Review Committee; Louisiana National Guard (Judge Advocate General Section); and St. Mary Industrial Group. Aucoin has also provided legal services for various political subdivisions in St. Mary Parish.
Aucoin said, “With compassion, temperament and respect, I believe I can make a real difference. My 37 years of courtroom experience, as well as my commitment to family values, has prepared me to effectively serve this district as a judge. I will be able to continue working for justice, the greatest protection our courts can secure for our citizens.”
