The announcement for James Carinhas follows.
I would like to start off by saying “thank you” to the citizens of Bayou Vista and Patterson for allowing me to serve you for the last four years as constable of Ward 5. I am currently seeking re-election for that position and would appreciate your vote.
To begin, my name is James P. Carinhas. I am 51 years old, and have proudly called Patterson my home for all of those years. I have been happily married to the former Mary Mendoza, also of Patterson, for 27 years. Mary and I are the proud parents of three daughters, Rachel, 21, Ann, 19, and Jamilyn, 11. Rachel and Ann attended Hattie Watts Elementary, Patterson Junior High School and graduated from Patterson High School. Jamilyn attended Hattie Watts Elementary and is attending school at Patterson Junior High.
I have been employed by the Patterson Police Department for the past 24 years. I have tirelessly worked my way through all areas of the department, as well as have continued my education in my profession.
I began as a dispatcher and have moved through this department as patrolman, K-9 officer, information technology, jail warden, and investigations, just to name a few. I am certified and have been for my entire career through the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).
I have trained with various organizations such as the FBI, US Customs, Office of Homeland Security, Louisiana State Police, and various police departments from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia, just to name a few. I have continued and plan to continue my education and training in all aspects of this profession and strive to be the best that I can be.
I am a member of the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department and have been for 31 years. I am a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Patterson Knights of Columbus Council 1710.
My hobbies and interests include spending time with my family and friends, hunting, fishing, and helping the citizens of Patterson.
As your constable, I will be available on a daily basis to all of the citizens of Patterson and Bayou Vista. My goal is to service all citizens equally and to the best of my ability. I feel that being an experienced police officer and constable provides our community with the best form of service that my citizens deserve.
During the last few years of my service, I have been working diligently on setting up a scholarship fund for our youth that are interested in pursuing an education in the field of criminal justice. My plans are to have this in place by May 2015.
I humbly ask the citizens of Ward 5 to allow me to continue as your constable. My life has always been that of service to my community and I have dedicated my life to it. If you should have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact me at 985-397-1076 or jpcarinhas@cox.net.
For more information on me, please visit my website www.contableward5.us or contact me at the number above. Thank you for your consideration and remember to vote No. 135 on Nov. 4 if you want the most experienced, committed, and dedicated candidate on the ballot for Constable of Ward 5.
