Central Catholic seniors get diplomas Saturday

Central Catholic High School will hold graduation ceremonies at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City.
Leading commencement will be valedictorians Megan Landry, John Parker and Brooke Picou, and salutatorians Mary Frances Aucoin and Mary-Beth Blanchard.
Landry, the daughter of Tommy and Dawn Landry, has been active in Sisters in Christ, Student Council, the Retreat Team, Key Club, Big Brother/Big Sister, National Honor Society and yearbook.
She has been awarded $30,996 in academic and athletic scholarships to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux. Among her numerous awards is the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Award and she was a Cox Scholar of the Week.
In athletics, she was a member of two state-championship teams — 2014 girls basketball and 2015 girls softball. Among her numerous sports awards are being softball All State and District MVP for three years, All District each year and Class 1A Outstanding Player, and earning All District honors in basketball and volleyball.
She plans to seek a secondary education degree at Nicholls.
Parker, the son of Billy and Debra Parker, has been active in National Honor Society, Key Club, Big Brother/Big Sister, Boy’s State citizen and Senior Class secretary.
He was an American Petroleum Institute, Atchafalaya Chapter, scholarship winner and earned the LSU Academic Scholars Resident Award.
Parker was named 2014 homecoming king, Senior Student of the Year and won a VFW Voice of Democracy Award.
In athletics, he participated in football, track and cross country. He was named Academic All-State in football.
He plans to attend LSU Honors College and major in pre-law with an emphasis on political science.
Picou, the daughter of David and Sandie Picou, has been active in Sisters in Christ, Key Club, Big Brother/Big Sister, National Honor Society and Multimedia.
She is a Central Catholic API Scholar student.
In athletics, she participated in tennis, cross country, swim team and cheerleading. Among her awards was being named Academic All-State in tennis and earning the Coach’s Award in swimming.
She plans to attend LSU to major in pre-veterinary medicine.
Aucoin, the daughter of Michelle Trapp and Greg Aucoin, has been active in Sisters in Christ, Key Club, National Honor Society, Drama Club and Retreat Team.
She was named 2015 prom queen, a local Shining Star, Student of the Month and won honors in Spanish I in Literary Rally.
Active in the community, among her activities she has volunteered in the Children’s Village at the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, worked the Diocesan Junior High Faith Experience and volunteered at St. Mary Outreach.
The salutatorian was a cheerleader and served as co-captain.
Blanchard is the daughter of Jerrilyn Blanchard and Johnny Blanchard
Among her school activities are National Honor Society, Drama Club, Student Council, Sisters in Christ, Big Brother/Big Sister, Retreat Team and school choir.
She earned first place in English IV in Regional Literary Rally and second in State Literary Rally.
Her athletic experience included softball, basketball and cheerleading.
She was a member of the 2014 State Championship Class 1A girls basketball team and earned Academic All-District and Academic All-State honors, and was captain in basketball.
