Child dies in accident on La. 83

A child was killed early Wednesday in a vehicular accident on La. 83.
The 5-year-old and his dog reportedly ran into the highway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The driver, James Hopkins III, 38, of Baldwin, was unable to avoid the crash, according to Louisiana State Police information officers.
The child was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Impairment is not suspected and Hopkins was not cited. The crash remains under investigation.
