Chitimacha Pow Wow is Sat.

Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana presents its second annual Pow Wow Saturday at the Pavilion at Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Admission is $5, with children five and under admitted free. Dancer and drum registration is $5 and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and 5-6 p.m.
Grand entry, the traditional start to any gathering of indigenous nations, begins at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Gourd dances are set for noon and 6 p.m.
Expected guests include the Ottertrail Singers as host Southern Drum; Medicine Tail as Host Northern Drum; Master of Ceremonies Hebert “Chick Dog” Johnson, Alabama-Coushatta; Head Man Pat Moore, Pawnee and Otoe; Head Lady, Tonya Moore, Cheyenne and Arapahoe; Head Gourd Dancer Richard Attocknie, Comanche; Arena Director Gabe Bullock, Alabama-Coushatta and Sac n Fox; and Head Judge Leland Thompson, Coushatta and Alabama.
There will be a Chitimacha basket raffle, arts and crafts vendors from Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona and Louisiana, as well as Indian tacos, fry bread and strawberry shortcake served on fry bread.
The dance competition continues most of the day, and there will also be a world-champion hoop dancer and Poarche Creek stomp dancer. A drum competition is also slated.
